Another Family Reunion!

Once every three years our nation-wide Episcopal Church gets together for a big old family reunion.  Like all families, it’s filled with love, fun, old stories, new hopes, and a fair amount of messiness.  This year our 16th Convention will be held in Anaheim for ten days.  We’ll worship together, build a Habitat house, ponder our common life together and decide how to spend our money.

First Light: Jesus and the Kingdom of God

Our Wednesday night bible study group is full of questions and we’re having a great time sorting them out!  Throughout the Easter season we studied the early church’s experience of Jesus and how he changed their lives and ours.  Now we’re ready to delve deeper into both the life of the pre-Easter Jesus and the movement founded by the post-Easter Jesus (to use descriptors coined by Marcus Borg.)   We have decided to continue our study with a 12-session DVD series called First Light: Jesus and the Kingdom of God.  It’s written by Marcus Borg and Dominic Crossan and shot on location at sites throughout Israel.

It’ll tackle such questions as: Why did Jesus happen when he happened? Why the confluence of the Baptism movement of John and the Kingdom movement of Jesus? Why the tiny villages around the lake? Why the confrontations in Jerusalem? Why then? Why there?

We’ll meet on Wednesday evenings, starting on June 10th at 6:00 pm, after the 5:00 service of Holy Eucharist.

Happy Pentecost!
