Hawaii State Hospital  Emmanuel has a long relationship with the clients at the Hawaii State Hospital which includes not only our Easter Dinner, but a visit on the first Sunday evening of each month to deliver a snack and attend chapel services.  Alice Boyd and Nancy Janczyk have been the heart of this ministry, but since Nancy is on the mainland for the time being, Alice needs help.  Please pray about this ministry, and see if you’re the one called to pitch in.  Please call the office at 262-4548 if you would like to help.

Habilitat  There are some great local events coming up and there is always room for help on a build.  Think outside the box, do you know any younger men or women who would welcome an invitation to help?  Mariano Hernando is our contact person:  551-1044.

Prayer Books  We have more than we need.  If you would like to take one to keep at home you are more than welcome.  They are on the back pew in the chapel.

Malamalama  The summer issue has gone into the mail this week—we hope you enjoy it.  In the meantime, I have a question!  Does anyone know how the newsletter got it's name?  Where did it come from?  What does it mean?  (There seem to be a number of different meanings in Hawaiian.)  Thanks!  -Kate+

Chocolate Extravaganza is coming November 15th! Save the date, tell your friends, get donations! See Carolyn Remedios & Jane Tonokawa for more information. Our 2008 partners are IHS and Family Promise.

Pastoral Emergencies  As always, the Rev. Kate Lewis is available for pastoral care at any time — her new cell number is 237-9200.

New By-Laws  In order to more closely align ourselves with diocesan standards, your Bishop’s Committee is proposing changes to our By-Laws.  Most of the changes are minor, the one substantive change is making the previous Pre-School Board a regular Committee of the church.  The Pre-School Advisory Committee will be chaired by the Pre-School Director, have membership from both the church community and pre-school community, and will be charged with the duty of advising the Bishop’s Committee and Vicar of the needs, cares, and concerns of the pre-school community.

The proposed by-laws are posted on the bulletin board at the back of the church and they will be voted on at the next regularly scheduled meeting of the Bishop’s Committee, August 27th at 6:30 pm.  If  you have any questions about them, please see Kate Lewis or any member of the Bishop’s Committee.
